               Admission Requirements

Admissions
Doņa Ana Branch Community College provides educational opportunities to all who desire to prepare themselves for the world  of work or for a college-level education. The community college endorses the open-door admission concept and will admit, to the limit of its physical and financial resources, all who wish to attend and who have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Students should apply early, as enrollment is limited in some programs.

How to apply
You should follow these procedures when applying for admission to any program at the community college:

1. Come by the DABCC Admissions Office, Room 116, for an application for admission and the information you need to get started. You may also fill out an online application at  dabcc-www.nmsu.edu/serv/admin

2. Submit the application form with a $15 nonrefundable application fee to: Admissions, Doņa Ana Branch Community College, MSC 3DA, P.O. Box 30001, Las Cruces, NM 88003-8001.

3. Arrange for official high school and college transcripts to be submitted directly to the Admissions Office at DABCC. Transcript request forms may be obtained at the Admissions office, Room 116. Students possessing a high school equivalency should request to have an official transcript of their GED (General Education Development) test scores mailed to the Admissions Office.

4. Make arrangements to take the COMPASS Assessment by contacting the Testing Technician at 527-7569 for dates, times, and location. There is no cost for the assessment.

Nondegree Admission
Nondegree admission is designed to meet the needs of mature, part-time students who do not wish to pursue a degree at this community college. Courses taken in this status may not be used to meet New Mexico State University admission requirements. Students in nondegree status are ineligible for financial aid, veterans benefits, regular student employment, and participation in student government.

Nondegree students are subject to the same regulations as regular students. They may not transfer more than 30 credits from this status to any degree program.

Admission requirements include a nondegree application and nonrefundable $15 application fee. Unofficial high school/college transcripts may also be required. Nondegree students must wait until the last day of the alpha registration schedule to register.

How  Transfer Students Are Admitted
If you are a transfer student and eligible to return to the college or university last attended, follow the same procedures as outlined under "How to Apply".

Additionally, have official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities previously attended sent to Doņa Ana Branch Community College. A student who conceals the fact that (s) he has attended another college or university and has not had transcripts submitted by each institution previously attended, whether or not credit was earned, will be subject to immediate suspension.

Upon receipt of your application and official transcript(s), an official academic credit evaluation will be made. Results will be sent to you by mail.

How to be readmitted to DABCC
If you have been away from Doņa Ana Branch Community College, New Mexico State University, or any other NMSU branch for one or more consecutive semesters, you can be readmitted by completing an application for readmission. If you attended any other colleges or universities during your absence from DABCC, NMSU, or any NMSU branch, you must request to have all official transcripts from these other colleges or universities mailed to  DABCC.

No application fee is required. Notification of readmission will be given after an evaluation of previous education is completed.

If you were previously admitted but did not attend, you must submit an updated application and may be required to submit official transcripts again.

Foreign Students
A foreign student is any individual attending Doņa Ana Branch Community College, New Mexico State University, or any other NMSU branch campus, while present in the United States on a non-immigrant student visa.  All foreign students must apply for admission through the Center for International Programs Office on the NMSU campus. Legal immigrants or refugees must present documentation of their status either to the Admissions Office or to the Center for International Programs Office.

Special Admissions Requirements
There are seven programs at Doņa Ana Branch Community College that have special admissions requirements:

Apprenticeship Programs
          (Electrical, Machinist, and, Plumbing)

Dental Assistant

Area Vocational School
         (Concurrent Enrollment)

Emergency Medical Services

Nursing
           (Associate Degree Program)

Radiologic Technology

Respiratory Care

Sonography

In addition to fulfilling the general requirements for admission to DABCC, individuals seeking admission to these programs must also fulfill certain special admissions requirements. Since these programs generally have limited enrollment, completion of the admission requirements for a specific program does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Acceptance may be competitive, based on an individuals academic performance in previous coursework and other criteria. Specific information regarding the acceptance procedure may be obtained from the individual program.

Students who have fulfilled all the special admissions requirements, yet were not admitted because of space limitations, will not automatically be considered for a subsequent semester. Therefore, they must reapply to special admissions programs each time they wish to be considered for acceptance.

Similarly, students who may have been accepted during a particular semester, but failed to accept an offer to enroll, must also reapply in order to be considered.
