Website Policy

The Doña Ana Branch Community College (DABCC) Library System is committed to providing and promoting access to materials and services that support the academic and informational needs of Doña Ana Branch Community College and local county residents. One of the principal ways we provide this access is to maintain an Internet website.

1. Website URL Address

The URL for the DABCC Library website is http://dabcc-www.nmsu.edu/library/. Doña Ana Branch Community College maintains the host server and domain name license.

2. Website Manager

A Website Manager(s) is appointed to develop the look of the website, make changes to the site, and create and maintain web pages, content and links, in consultation with the Library Dean and the Website Review Committee. The Website Manager is a member of the Library staff. The Website Manager creates content and links to relevant websites based on selection guidelines for Web-based resources. With the approval of the Library Dean, the Website Manager may appoint a backup Web Technician from the Library staff to assist in maintaining the Library website. Online the Library Website Manager and his/her backup are authorized to make changes to the Library website. This helps ensure consistency in organization and appearance, and awareness of Website contents.

3. Website Audience

The Library website will provide a dynamic collection of links and content primarily in support of DABCC's academic programs as well as other departments and programs that serve the student population at all DABCC sites. Such programs include, but are not limited to, Adult Basic Education, Community and Workforce Development, and the Student Success Center.

4. Website Scope and Content

The Library website is intended to provide its entire user community access to a variety of educational and informational resources in electronic format. The Website Manager, in consultation with the Library Dean, will evaluate all potential website content for appropriateness in accordance with the Library's mission and website scope. The information will be complemented and supplemented by the print and multimedia collections of the Library. The information includes, but is not limited to, online databases, electronic books, subject-specific information literacy tutorials, subject-specific compilations of Internet resources relevant to DABCC academic programs, a federated search engine (Roadrunner Portal), an online catalog of print and multimedia materials within the DABCC Library collection as well as the NMSU Libraries and NMSU-Alamogordo Library collections, and information on Library programs and services.

5. Website Access

The Website Manager will develop the Library website to accommodate a broad range of computer capacities and to serve patrons of varying abilities. Because of license agreement limitations, access to some Library web resources may be restricted to DABCC registered students, faculty and staff, with IDs registered in the NMSU ID system.

6 Website Links

The DABCC Library System may provide links from its website to other websites to support the Library's goal of providing a wide range of information to the community it serves. Staff librarians will recommend websites to the Library Website Manager for their information and/or educational value. Government, non-profit, and commercial websites may be included. To be selected, websites must meet the following criteria:

Since website content may be change and disappear entirely without notice, the Library cannot be held responsible for the content and accuracy of websites not maintained by the DABCC Library staff. Library staff will make every effort to review content and keep links current. We encourage website visitors to inform the Library staff if they find a link that no longer functions or those they believe are inconsistent with the above stated criteria. This request will then be considered by the Website Manager in consultation with the Library Dean.

7. Website Maintenance

The DABCC Library Website Manager and his/her backup will maintain the Library's website. However, maintenance and administration of the web server is a function of DABCC's Computer Support Group. Computer Support controls server access, implements regular backups and is responsible for providing technical support to Library staff about server problems. Technical questions or problems regarding web server maintenance should be referred to the Library Website Manager, who will consult with the appropriate Computer Support staff if necessary.

8. Privacy Policy

The DABCC Library System will collect and store only the information necessary to measure the number and timing of visitors to different areas of the DABCC Library website to assist in making these sites more useful. The information may include:

The DABCC Library System may request personal information such as name, e-mail address, social security number (especially for remote access), and student ID number of a Library website visitor only if needed to allow access to a subscription service or to complete an information or service request submitted to the Library staff from the website. These requests can be found on the Library Express form, InterLibrary Loan form, and other forms and are necessary to provide the related service. The Library will not sell, lease or otherwise distribute or disclose a library patron's name, social security number, student ID number, e-mail address, postal address, telephone number, borrower records or other personal information for non-library purposes or to outside parties unless required by law. For information about how the USA PATRIOT Act affects library patron privacy, visit the website of the American Library Association (http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/ifissues/usapatriotact.htm).
