As a professional educational program, the Nursing Program is a limited-entry program. To be considered for admission, students are required to successfully complete 1) all prerequisites, 2) the designated entrance exam, 3)interview with the Admission, Progression, and Graduation Committee, and 4) the student selection process. The degree plan credit hours of nursing course work for an Readmission Applicant will vary from student to student depending on where the student exited the program. Nursing courses do expire after two years. Space availability is considered for applicants. 

Steps to Application

1.     ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE 

Gain admission to Dona Ana Community College. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission into the nursing program. All transcripts need to be on file with the admissions office.

2.     MEET MINIMUM GPA AND PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS 

      Complete all eight prerequisite courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.75. Each prerequisite class must have a grade of “C” or better. The grade received on first passing will be used for calculating the admission GPA. Anatomy & Physiology I, Anatomy & Physiology II, and Microbiology classes completed more than seven years prior to admission to the program will not be accepted for credit. Proof of current CNA state licensure or have successfully completed college credit CNA courses within the past two years. A nursing program academic advisor will need to complete the GPA calculation. Applicants are encouraged to have their GPA calculated PRIOR to registering for the entrance exam.

  This form must be filled out and signed by a nursing advisor and the nursing program director. Nursing coursework older than two years will not transfer unless the applicant has obtained licensure as a PN.

6.     COMPLETE APPLICATION PAPERWORK 

Application paperwork can be obtained below. Applicants will need to contact a nursing program advisor for more information on the ranking sheet for admission. Applicants will be contacted at a later date to schedule an interview with the Admission, Progession, and Graduation Committee. If you have any questions, please contact a nursing advisor. Finger print cards must be obtained in person from DAHL 190. Only complete applications will be accepted.

  Please check this page for Background Forms and Instructions. Immunizations, TB, DUI Screen, CPR, and Drug Screen are due upon program acceptance. Some immunizations require multiple injections. Some students may need to start working on immunizations now. If you need your CPR certification, please plan accordingly.

Entrance Testing

DACC Nursing Program school code: 198465

One of the admission requirements for this program is that applicants pass the HESI A² examination. This examination is computer-based and will only be offered at Prometric Testing Centers. A computer based calculator will be available during the exam. Please visit www.prometric.com for locations. Passing the HESI A² exam does not guarantee entrance into the Nursing Program. Registering for the HESI is a multi-step process and can take up to a week to complete. This includes: 1) Set up an EVOLVE account; 2) Request a testing id through EVOLVE; 3) Registering with Prometric for the exam. Applicants can only request a testing identification number during open test dates.

HESI A2 TESTING

Dates:

Testing for Version I:         February 1- April 18, 2013

Testing for Version II:        February 1-April 18, 2013

Cost:

Cost for Version I:             $90 per test administration

Re-test (Version II):           An additional cost of $90

Scoring:

Minimum Composite Score of 76% from test sections: Math, Reading, Vocabulary, and A & P. Composite score is obtained by averaging the four test scores for these sections ONLY.

Re-testing:

Students can retake the exam ONLY if they score under the Composite Score of 76% on the Version I exam. If a student fails the test on the second attempt, he/she must wait one semester in order to retest.

Test Versions:

HESI A² (Admissions Assessment) with Critical Thinking, Version I for the first exam (A2 V-1 w/CT)

HESI A² (Admissions Assessment) with Critical Thinking, Version II for the retake exam (A2 V-2 w/CT)

Test Sections:

When you take the test, you are required to know which sections you need to take, as the test center personnel will not know. There are many available sections of the exam but you only need the following seven sections for the ADN program. You will have four hours to complete the exam.

   Math: 50-item exam; focuses on math needed for calculation of drugs and solutions

Reading Comprehension: 47-item exam; reading scenarios that are health related

Vocabulary and General Knowledge: 50-item exam; contains basic vocabulary that is often used in health care fields

Anatomy and Physiology: 30-item exam; contains basic questions related to the body.

Critical Thinking: Focuses on the comprehension, analysis, and application of knowledge.

Learning Style: Identifies individual learning styles and prints test-taking and study tips best suited for the individual’s learning style and relates these recommendations to nursing criteria.

Personality Style: Uses concepts related to introversion and extroversion to classify the student’s personality style. Explanations are sent via email to let the student know how to use his/her personality style to be successful in a nursing education program.

PN TO ADN MOBILITY TESTING

Approximately $95.00

Scoring:

Minimum Average Score of 650 from all test sections:

Testing:

There is not a retest for the PN to ADN mobility. If an applicant does not meet the minimum testing score, the student would have to wait until the next application period to test again.

Test Sections:

All sections of the exam must be completed in order to obtain an average score.
