Phlebotomy
A Phlebotomist is a Healthcare Professional that specializes in extracting blood for analysis from patients. Phlebotomists work hand in hand with other Laboratory Clinicians in assisting physicians in the diagnosing of diseases and/or disorders. Students are required to complete 30 clinical hours separate from class time on their own. Upon successfully completing the course, the student is eligible to take the NHA national exam to become certified as a phlebotomist.
Registration for this course is closed for self-registration. In order to register for the class, each student must submit the following:
· TB Screening within the last 12 months, positive reactors are to have signed a symptom checklist within the last 12 months · 2 MMR vaccines both since 1980 or Rubella and Rubeola titers · Tetanus vaccine within the last 10 years · Hepatitis B series (3 shots) · Proof of Varicella immunity- titer or proof of vaccine accepted · Current CPR from an American Heart Health Care Provider · Drug screen ($30.00) · Background check with Caregiver Criminal History Screening Program (CCHSP) Fingerprints required. ($65.00)
Students can obtain a clincal clearance packet by attending an orientation. Dates and times of orientations will be posted around the Health and Public Services Building or you can contact the program directly for more information. Course admission is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check, which will be completed during the first week of class.
