Electrocardiogram (ECG) technicians assist physicians to diagnose and treat cardiac disorders. ECG technicians are trained to perform 12 lead ECG’s, which are tracings of the electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. The technician connects electrodes to the patient and then operates the ECG machine to obtain a reading. The ECG reading is printed out for interpretation by the physician. Prerequisite for this course is BIOL 154 Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology, or BIOL 225 & 226.  Upon successfully completing the course, the student is eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association examination to become nationally certified as an Electrocardiogram Technician.
