*Many, but not all, communication products (a formal piece of writing, a multimedia production or a production of oral language) may be considered an artifact and can be assessed using this rubric.
** Artifacts will be assessed against task-specific conventions. A piece of writing, for example, will be assessed against conventions of paragraphing, sentence boundaries, usage, agreement, punctuation and spelling. Conventions will be articulated prior to the assessment session, and assessors will be normed to these conventions.
