Achieving the Dream
Achieving the Dream Doña Ana Community College (DACC) was a participant in the Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiative through the Lumina Foundation from fall 2005 – spring 2009. As part of this initiative, the college established an AtD cohort every semester, which included all students taking developmental mathematics courses at DACC Gadsden and Sunland Park centers. Following this three-year period as a participant in AtD, DACC applied for and was accepted as a Leader College within the AtD program. As a Leader College DACC has demonstrated a commitment to and made progress on: committed leadership, use of evidence to improve programs and services, broad engagement, and systemic institutional improvement. In 2013 DACC received confirmation that its Leader College status would be renewed.
One of the initiatives specified in the Achieving the Dream Annual Report 2012 was the continuance of learning communities. After a site visit in spring 2012, DACC’s AtD coaches reported, “We were impressed with your learning communities efforts and outcomes for example and this has been a struggle for many colleges.” The coaches encouraged those involved with the learning communities to present at the 2013 DREAM institute. Four of the faculty involved did present, and the presentation was well received. DACC has many other student success initiatives underway, and uses data to evaluate progress and focus on student success. DACC will continue with planning processes that support Achieving the Dream goals and initiatives.
