Dr. Huerta noted a good morning.  She also noted starting next year, Admin Council meetings would be held at East Mesa.

Dr. Huerta asked Ms. Chairez to make introductions of new staff members.  Ms. Chairez introduced Ms. Michelle Lukesh, associate director of financial aid.  Ms. Lukesh comes from NMSU.  Ms. Lisa Maynez is the new scholarship coordinator.  She also comes to us from NMSU.  Dr. Huerta noted Ms. Maynez will be working with her and DACC’s Development Council on scholarships.  Dr. Huerta welcomed both to DACC.  She asked Ms. Martinez if Ms. Cisneros has already started work.  Ms. Gerri answered yes, but she had her working.

1 – Approval of the March 7, 2012, Minutes – Dr. Huerta

Dr. Huerta noted she asked when someone gives a presentation (PowerPoint, etc.), Irene will attach that presentation to the minutes.  Dr. Huerta entertained a motion to approve the minutes.  Mr. Adams motioned to approve the minutes of March 7, 2012.  Ms. Martinez seconded the motion.  All were in favor, the motion carried.  Irene will post on the web.

2 – HR Updates – Dr. Huerta/Mr. Adams

(annual performance appraisals) Mr. Adams noted performance evaluations for non-exempt staff are due to DACC HR by April 20, 2012.  Please make sure 2nd level reviewer reviews and signs evaluation before the supervisor meets with the employee.  Exempt evaluations are now open and ready to go.  Exempt staff evaluations are due electronically by May 31, 2012.

(annual staff position management cycle FY13) Mr. Adams noted a relatively new process formally known as the PDQ process.  He sent an email with instructions associated with form that needs to be completed.  They are due to DACC HR by April 20, 2012, with all the required signatures (supervisor and Dr. Huerta).  Mr. Adams noted the position needs to be significantly different than when the Mercer Study was done.  Please be realistic.  Mr. Adams added this would be done annually about this time of year.  Dr. Huerta asked that there be plenty of time to review and sign.

Annual staff position management forms are due to DACC HR April 20, 2012, with all required signatures.

 

(administrative reviews)  Dr. Huerta is working with Mr. Burke, Mr. Adams, and NMSU HR on DACC Faculty Council’s request for administrative reviews.  We are making progress and the list is coming.  NMSU is looking at the process and will be implementing a new one process.  We will be moving forward with the current process; which NMSU never formally defined.

Dr. Huerta noted the change to the top of the agenda.   The Achieving the Dream logo is now being used.  Dr. Huerta met with AtD’s senior VP yesterday.  They are very excited to have DACC as a Leader College.

3 – 2012 -2013 Budget Meeting – Dr. Huerta

Dr. Huerta noted the Executive Team will meet with the Budget Committee on April 11, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. in the ACR, Central Campus.  The news is about the same; new money will be used for pre-committed commitments and for the new facilities.  Dr. Huerta noted she hopes the future gets better for New Mexico and higher education.  She wanted everyone to know that she and the Executive Team are aware of the needs of all the departments/units.

4 – Faculty Council Meeting – Dr. Huerta

Dr. Huerta noted the Executive Team will meet with Faculty Council regarding salaries, sabbaticals, and travel.  The meeting will be held on April 17 at 3:30 p.m. here at East Mesa (DAEM 221).

5 – Stars of Excellence Ceremony – Dr. Huerta

Dr. Huerta noted Dr. Walker sent out an email regarding nominations for the Stars of Excellence.  The ceremony is to celebrate employees and to give us an opportunity to reward employees.  The nominations are due to Dr. Walker by April 11.  The ceremony will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012, in the Auditorium at East Mesa.  We will also recognize faculty who got promoted or tenure and employees who celebrated a 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 year anniversary in 2011.  The date has been changed from what was printed in the Master Calendar.

Nominations for Stars of Excellence are due to Dr. Walker by April 11, 2012.

6 – Extraordinary Leadership/Extraordinary Results Conference – Ms. Haines

Ms. Haines invited everyone to the Extraordinary Leadership/Extraordinary Results Conference.  The conference will be held on May 3, 2012, at the Las Cruces Convention Center.  Mr. Clyde Birch will be the keynote speaker.  The cost for DACC employees is $199.  A flyer was given to the group.  The Las Cruces Chamber is the networking sponsor and the Las Cruces Bulletin is the media sponsor.  If you have any questions, please let her know.

7 - Announcements

Dr. Huerta noted several upcoming events:

ü  Wednesday, April 25 is Administrative Assistants Day.  Administrative assistants run the college, do the day-to-day happenings, and do things we do not have time to do.  Please show your appreciation and gratitude and do something special.

ü  The Academic Scholars Reception will be held on April 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ramada Inn.

ü  The NMSU Spring Summit will be held on April 13 at the Farm and Ranch Museum.   The Summit is not just for faculty.  In many ways, the Summit follows up the Round Up.  DACC will host this year’s Round Up.  Several staff from DACC will present at the Summit.

ü  The GISD Dual Credit Recognition Ceremony will be held on April 25 at the Gadsden Center.

ü  DACC’s Commencement will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

Dr. Huerta noted the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) site visit will be held April 18-20.  The NM Board of Nursing conducted their site visit in January.  The Board agreed to grant full approval of the Nursing Program.  Ms. Tracy Lopez did a tremendous job along with Ms. Hobbs.

Ms. DeLaTorre-Burmeister noted the Job Squad was working on the April 12 Job Expo.  Leading up to the Job Expo, there will be several workshops beginning April 10: The Resume, Professional Dress, and The Interview.  The Job Expo will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with 32 employers. Everyone is welcome to attend.  She will email information out to everyone.

Ms. DeLaTorre-Burmeister noted she was chair of the HLC Publicity Committee.  Everyone should have received the first newsletter.  Ms. Contreras noted the committee presented to student government.  The students are excited and want to be involved.

Ms. Hobbs noted the Health & Public Services Division will be holding a Simulation Day on April 27.  All programs will be involved in mock emergencies.  More details will be sent out.

Dr. O’Neil noted April is Stress Awareness Month.  This Thursday in Room 77 at Central Campus there will be a master herbalist.

Mr. Burke noted the Pegasus Company is looking at sites in Las Cruces and also Hobbs to build their simulation city.  The city will test emergency protocols.  This would mean new jobs.

Dr. Piña noted the student play Language of Flowers will be showing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday here at East Mesa in Auditorium.  The play is a take-off of Romeo and Juliet.

Ms. Powers noted next week is National Library Week.  The entire State is coming on April 11-13 for NM Library Association conference at Las Cruces Convention Center.
