Dr. Huerta noted a good morning to the group.

Informational Item

1 – Approval of the November 2, 2011, Minutes – Dr. Huerta

Dr. Huerta entertained a motion to approve the minutes.  Ms. Hobbs moved to approve minutes of November 2, 2011.  Dr. Walker seconded the motion.  All were in favor, the motion carried.

The minutes of November 2, 2011, were approved.  Irene will post on the web.

3 – ADA Training  – Mr. Jerry Nevarez

Dr. Huerta welcomed Mr. Jerry Nevarez with the NMSU Office of Institutional Equity – (OIE/EEO) who presented a training on “ADA” The Americans with Disabilities Act – What you Should Know

Mr. Nevarez circulated a handout to be used with presentation (see attached).

Presentation discussed the following:

Amendments to 1990 Disability Laws to eliminate discrimination and give equal employment opportunities to qualified disabled individuals who meet job skills and perform essential functions with reasonable accommodations.

The definition of a disability and what qualifies as a disability.

Using acceptable language when speaking about the disabled.

Treating individuals with disabilities fairly, legally and with respect. 

Reasonable accommodation requests must be documented through the interactive process.

Dr. Huerta said that the next training may be on Bullying.   NMSU does have a policy bullying. 

Training

2 – Exempt Employees Hired as Part-time Faculty – Dr. Huerta/Mr. Adams

DACC Guidelines for Exempt Employees Hired as Part-time Faculty were passed out and reviewed (see handout).

Employee requests to teach during work hours must be sent through the chain and up to Provost.  Dr. Huerta said a standardize form will be provided.

Members would like to see policy for Non-Exempt Employees who want to teach.  Dr. Huerta will discuss this at the next meeting.

Informational Item

4 - Announcements

Dr. Huerta reminded and encouraged everyone to attend the Open Forum today at 3:30 p.m. with Dr. Wilkins and Dr. Fant.  The Forum was moved from DAEM 222 to the Auditorium.  Dr. Huerta also reminded everyone about the Open Forum tomorrow at 3:30 in DAEM 222.

Next Meeting

This meeting is the December meeting also since Exec. Team will be in Santa Fe.  There will be no meeting on January 4, 2012.  The January meeting will be scheduled another day.  Irene will send out the 2012 Schedule before the break.
