Kim Seifert- Department Chair
After 25 years involved with various aspects of the Hospitality Industry, Mr. Seifert came to DABCC in 2001 to assume the coordinator's role. With a B.S. in Hotel Admin from UNLV and an MPA from Golden Gate University in Health Care Administration, Mr. Seifert has a broad and unique exposure to our industry. He has said that his main goal is to increase the number of students enrolled in the program and make it a contributor the the economic well being of New Mexico.

What is the Hospitality Industry?

It encompasses many fields in the areas of Hotel, Restaurant, Cruise, Airline and Travel, Resort and Tourism Management. Some typical jobs are: Hotel Manager, Cruise Director, Executive Housekeeper, Restaurant Manager, Front Desk Clerk, Banquet Captain, Hotel Sales Agent, Concierge, Airlines Gate Agent, and many others.

What skills do I need to gain work in this Industry?

More than skills, successful hospitality services students need a positive attitude, a outgoing personality, the genuine desire to make others pleased with their experience, and most important - an enthusiastic approach to all they do.

What salary could I earn with an A.A.S. degree?

Students graduating from DABCC have started new positions with salaries ranging from the high "teens" to the mid $30,000's. It all depends on experience, skills, talent and personality.

How long does it take to receive an A.A.S. degree?

There are 4 semesters of courses required (at 15+ credits per semester) necessary for the degree. If remedial or preparatory classes are required (based on the students entry test scores) it will take longer to achieve the degree. It is possible to expedite the process by attending summer sessions as well as fall and spring semesters
