One of my favorite quotes is "Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not."  This is why I frequently tell my students that I do not ever "give" grades--they "earn" them by their own efforts.  Therefore, I feel that one of my key responsibilities as an instructor is to facilitate my students' learning so that they can acquire the knowledge and experience that is necessary for them to "earn" the best grades that they can and, in so doing, they can then better fulfill their personal goals and aspirations.
